Wild rice in catering Over the past decades, wild rice has become a very popular delicacy all over the world. It is extremely versatile and, thanks to its nutty flavour and pleasantly firm consistency, goes well with a wide variety of dishes. Wild rice is also an appealing eye-catcher, a very important attribute for caterers. Cooking pure wild rice in catering establishments is easy: like traditional rice, it is cooked in (salted) water until it has absorbed the cooking liquid. Also as it is so nutritious and contains few calories, wild rice is an excellent choice for healthy catering. Practical wild rice mixes, which offer a better price/performance ratio and cook more quickly, are ideal for catering: the wild rice used in these mixes has been pre-treated to cook in the same time as the parboiled long grain or brown rice also included in the mix. One of the main benefits of rice compared with other side dishes is its high yield in comparison with the raw product. In the wild rice mixes, the results are almost the same as with pure long grain or brown rice – another reason to use attractive wild rice in catering as well. |
